Native to the tropical rainforests of Panama, this understory velvet species is part of the section Cardiolonchium, a group known for its heart-shaped, velvety-leaved members. Dressleri stands out even within this elite circle, revered by collectors for its elegant growth habit and dark, almost metallic foliage. Some of the more well known Dressleri types include the Rio Guanche (RG) and Windy Dressleri which are named for the location of origin and the Hawaiian botanist from which the originated—respectively.
